Hi, could you please explain to me why the answer is y=-sqrt(x^2+1) in this q. I get that its plus minus but how do u determine if its plus or minus in the end.
I think the answer is minus in the end because the domain of the original function is less than or equal to -1. Hence, the range of the inverse should also be less than or equal to -1.
That is because a root (only taking rational numbers into account) can only give a positive value, hence without the minus sign, it would always give a positive value (which does not fit the range). Hence, in order to manipulate the answer to fit into the range of less than or equal to -1, it should be minus.
